The Abomination is an enemy that appears in the original Afraid of Monsters and the Director's Cut.

Appearance[]

In the original Afraid of Monsters, the Abomination is a hunched, bipedal monster with three arms, one of which protrudes from it's chest. It has three long clawed fingers on each hand. It's body is almost entirely black and it's "eye" appears to be a single glowing light in the center of it's head.
In the Director's Cut the monster is a large tangled black mass with no apparent limbs or other distinguishable features. It's 'head' is a sideways screaming, disembodied head with black eyes. It is bleeding from the nose and has black streaks leaking from the eyes. The state of the head seems to imply it was not originally part of the creature, and more likely something it somehow acquired.

Tactics[]

  • In the original game, the Abomination's electrical attack has a very long range. Usually, the only way to avoid it is hiding behind a corner or object before the monster finishes charging the attack.
  • The Abomination (DC) is slow, but if it manages to hit David, he will be poisoned, causing him to lose health for a few seconds, and giving the screen a red tint. The best course of action is to either maneuver around it (this can be difficult due to its size, and depending on the space provided by the current room) or to kill it with high powered weapons such as the Shotgun or Revolver. Just be careful not to get too close to it when attacking, as it is capable of killing David in just a few hits.
  • The Abomination (DC) has only a melee attack and a bleeding passive instead of it's ranged attack. Its AI model is big, but it has a small hitbox and a small collision box like the original Abomination. Getting on top of it's collision box using a box or highground could be a challenge, but it's still vulnerable against melee weapons when the player has successfully reached its top.

Trivia[]

  • The Abomination is a modification of the Vortigaunt from Half-Life. The poisonous attack is similar to the Vortigaunt's electrocution effect.
  • The Abomination's ranged electrical attack was removed in the Director's Cut, where it only uses the melee attack method.
  • Despite the appearance being vastly altered for the Director's Cut, the body still uses the same texture used the original game.
  • In the game files of the Director's Cut, the monster is simply referred to as 'ghost'
